More Ethiopians, Please
By Julia Gorin (bio)

As long as we’re still importing third world immigrants, with particular favoritism toward Muslims ones, could we please get some more Ethiopians in? That way this country will have at least someone willing to fight back against jihad. I’ll take some more Sikhs too. They may not love the Jews, but they really don’t love Muslims. But my main focus here is Ethiopians. Let us for a moment recall Sweet December, 2006:

Don’t get too excited
By Mike Long (bio)

As the media enjoys surprising Sen. Obama with all sorts of bad news, we conservatives shouldn’t get all giddy. Our time’s comin’ with McCain. (Yes, I know you’re not that excited about him. Still, we need to vote for him: somewhat conservative is better than not conservative at all, especially when picking Supreme Court justices.)

Politics Is War By Other Means
By Cory Franklin (bio)

Recently, Tariq Ali wrote a long piece in The Guardian, “Where Has All the Rage Gone?” glorifying the worldwide Socialist demonstrations that occurred in 1968. The gist of his Guardian piece is that the key to the worldwide demonstrations was the 1968 Tet Offensive in Saigon, which prompted what came later in the year. Granted 40 years is a long time, but Tariq recalls a battle that never was. He wrote of the Tet Offensive, “The grand finale was the sight of Vietnamese guerrillas occupying the US embassy in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and raising their flag from its roof”. Good story but put simply, never happened. In fact, never came close to happening.

Historical Reality vs. a National “Birth Defect”
By Arnold Ahlert (bio)

Last Friday, Condoleeza Rice stated that we still have a racial problem in this country due to a national “birth defect” resulting from slavery. “Black Americans were a founding population. Africans and Europeans came here and founded this country together–Europeans by choice and Africans in chains. That’s not a very pretty reality of our founding,” said the Secretary of State.

India cannot protect China from Tibetans
By Judith A. Klinghoffer (bio)

Chinese authorities have known all along that Tibetans and their sympathizers could be expected to see the upcoming Olympic games as a golden opportunity to focus world attention on their demand for greater autonomy. What they have failed to consider is the radicalization of Tibetan Youth that is no longer dependent on India. Since India has played host to the Dalai Lama and his supporters for decades, China has been playing hard ball with India by continuing to claim the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as part of Tibet. Only last month, China went so far as to protest strongly Prime Minister Singh’s visit to that state. The message to India is clear: “Make a wrong move on Tibet, and we will start trouble in Arunachel.”

Need a Liver? Kill a Serb.
By Julia Gorin (bio)

Well well well. For perhaps the first time in history, the mainstream media have deemed the dismemberment of Serbs newsworthy. More accurately, they have deemed newsworthy the dismemberment of the Serb and non-Serb victims of our friends, and almost all living Albanians’ great heroes, the KLA. (Recall the crowds cheering “KLA! KLA! KLA!” last month from Tirana to Pristina to Times Square. Below is just a taste of one of the many KLA activities they were cheering.) The new information is revealed in the forthcoming book The Hunt by Carla Del Ponte, former chief prosecutor for the Hague Tribunal. A few reports, starting with — gasp — the AP (which both the International Herald Tribune and Fox News deigned to carry):

Muslims learning to deal with free speech
By Judith A. Klinghoffer (bio)

It is easy to despair but is it necessary? I do not think so. For months the Dutch government braced itself and the media has been filled with predictions that a new wave of violence is going to flood the Muslim world in response to the release of Fitna, the movie. Muslim response to the Danish cartoons as well as general intolerance towards uncomfortable free speech, has justified concern. Indeed, there has been a concerted effort to prevent it’s release.

Falling Dollar good for US
By Judith A. Klinghoffer (bio)

For months I have been waiting for a respected economist to write the truth: The decline of the dollar may inconvenience me along with other Americans traveling abroad but it makes sense to a country with a chronic negative trade balance. So, some of stay home and more foreigners come here. The result? A needed shot in the arms for our tourist industry.

Scalia Makes an Excellent Point
By Mike Long (bio)

Here’s a quick story describing Justice Scalia’s taking to task the media (NY Times in particular) for disingenuously (or maybe ignorantly–sometimes you have to wonder) asserting that the Supreme Court makes policy ad hoc instead of basing their decisions on the law. I read the editorial he mentioned–clearly, Scalia’s right. The NY Times editors portray Scalia and others on the court (even their usual “friends”) as tossing sick people into the street for the joy of watching their teeth chatter. If the Times objects to a Court decision–especially one decided 8-1–they should object to the law, not castigate the judge as lacking compassion. And if they don’t know that, they should take read a #%$^@!! civics book and learn at least what 8th graders know about government. When it comes to intellectual honestly, in this case, the Times editors are the ones playing dirty.

“If you don’t have an argument, pound the table.”
By Mike Long (bio)

There’s an old saying in politics that concludes, “If you don’t have an argument to make, pound the table.” Here’s table-pounder extraordinaire Al “Internet Inventor” Gore declaring that anyone who disagrees with him is a flat-earther.  No need to engage your opponents, eh, Al? (P.S. There’s a lot of money Al’s leaving on the table these days–lots of scientists stand ready to debate him on the issue in public, for cash, but Al won’t debate. He’d rather, um, call names.)

Poll: Blacks like Hillary better than Whites
By Judith A. Klinghoffer (bio)

One of the most interesting findings of the recent NBC/WSJ findings ignored by the media is that White voters view Hillary much more negatively than Blacks. Thus, only 16% of the Blacks view her somewhat negatively and 12% very negatively compared to 22% of the Whites who view her somewhat negatively and 29% very negatively. Her negatives have gone up in the past week probably because of the brouhaha surrounding her trip to Bosnia but both she and Bill Clinton continue to be much more popular with the Black voters than Whites. In other words, chances are that once the general election campaign is joined, Blacks will not have all that much difficulty voting for Hillary.

Eliot Spitzer Should Have Listened To Sinatra
By Cory Franklin (bio)

He was one of America’s smartest, most talented lawyers. Besides being brilliant, he was audacious enough to pursue legal cases that other lawyers, just as smart and talented, wouldn’t consider. His courtroom victories and backroom negotiation skills rewarded him handsomely; they brought him immense wealth and power. As his reputation grew, he was alternatively admired and feared by those in his circles. In the business community, the Wall Street Journal routinely ran scathing stories portraying him as the Devil Incarnate. And then, not too long ago, at the height of his career, he decided to do something even a layperson could tell him would destroy his career if it was discovered - and it was.
