The biggest part of the John Edwards scandal is not John Edwards. It’s the scandal of mainstream media so biased towards the left that Americans looking for the truth can no longer depend upon the MSM to give it to them. Yet if truth be told, John Edwards–a potential vice-presidential selection–is a sideshow. There is another story churning through the alternative media that the MSM refuses to touch, one with devastating allegations regarding Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. To wit: is the Senator an American citizen, or not?
Two alternative media sources, the Israel Insider newspaper and a computer analyst blogging as “Techdude” have independently determined that the birth certificate presented first on the DailyKos website and later on Barack Obama’s “Fight the Smears” campaign website is a fraud.
The MSM? MIA.
The MSM’s reticence to investigate “unfounded rumors by unreliable news sources” is precisely what kept them out of the loop regarding John Edwards. If such “high-mindedness” were applied equally to Republicans and Democrats alike, the MSM might retain an ounce of credibility. But one need only go back to February 21, 2008 to a New York Times story–on the front page–alleging the “possibility” of John McCain being “romantically involved with a lobbyist.” The Times ran the story without a single source willing to say for certain it was true.
Apparently some rumors are more equal than others.
I have no idea whether the reports regarding Barack Obama’s citizenship, or lack thereof, are true or not. But isn’t that precisely the point? Has “investigative journalism,” aka following a story wherever it goes, become an oxymoron? Hasn’t the blogosphere been on the leading edge of enough genuine news stories to pique the MSM’s curiosity?
How important is getting to the truth? If Barack Obama is not an American citizen, he is ineligible to be president of the United States.
Being the “last man in” on an extra-marital affair of a vice-presidential hopeful is a large stain. Being the last ones in on potentially the biggest story of the 2008 election campaign–or, arguably, presidential campaign history– would leave the mainstream media’s credibility mutilated beyond recognition.
That the MSM is biased is beyond question. But are they suicidal?
