Since the election, I’ve rarely posted here. Somewhat burned out from the hate directed at anyone who doesn’t endorse Obama as King for Life. But this torture prosecution business brings me back to make a point:
If the Administration proceeds with prosecution–even open-ended investigation–of the terror policy of the previous administration, it will have opened the door to criminalizing policy disputes. Here’s what that means: If Obama declares that the Congress-monitored foreign policy decisions of the previous administration should be investigated to determine their legality, every decision of every administration from here on will be subject to criminal prosecution if the subsequent administration so decrees.
This isn’t about setting America right with the world. This is about giving the Angry Left the buckets of Bush/Cheney blood they’re still screaming for. And here’s the upshot: If Obama goes through with this, the next Republican nominee won’t be able to get out of the blocks without promising an investigation of the Obama administration for… something, take your pick: illegal takeover of business, extortion against corporate leaders, fraud perpetrated on shareholders, failing to keep the nation safe, whatever. It won’t matter. For all his vaunted wisdom, Obama is playing with acid that can burn right through our system.
